Instead, you get a handsome brushed stainless finish that is resistant to fingerprints and smudges, although a simple wipe is all you need to clean the base. The brushed stainless base features two switches and a variable pulse control knob instead of buttons that get sticky and need to be cleaned out. And for added stability, the base has non-slip feet on the bottom.

Technology: Vitamix blenders are in a completely different category than other blenders. The Professional Series blenders wouldn’t be able to achieve such high results if there wasn’t advanced technology built into the appliances. The patented tamper works with thick mixtures such as milkshakes, ice cream and sorbets that other blenders wouldn’t be able to handle. There are three pre-programmed settings – Smoothies, Hot Soups, Frozen Desserts – so that all you have to do is push a button, and you get consistent results each time. While the Vitamix 1710 does rest on a lot of technology, some of the performance just comes from quality parts, speed and power.

Superior Parts: If you’re tired of replacing blenders every year or two, the Vitamix will be the last appliance you buy. It is an investment upfront, but you won’t be dissatisfied. Part of the reason why blenders break is because the internal parts are made from plastic or rubber. The Vitamix on the other hand, has nothing but quality parts inside and out. The blades are made from laser-cut stainless steel, feature superior cutting edges and are a one-piece assembly. Kudos to the product for being made in the USA.
Blending Power: Even with the high price of a Vitamix, many consumers don’t mind paying the cost since the power is far superior. The stainless steel blades and 64-ounce container create a powerful vortex that forces ingredients from the top of the blender down into the blade. This is the best way to blend foods and creates the silkiest textures, leaving no chunks behind. The blades can run up to 240 miles per hour using the variable speed control, which means you get all your blending needs done within seconds. Thanks to the pre-programmed settings, you can choose a setting, walk away and have everything done for you.

What’s Not So Great About the Vitamix 1710 Professional Series, Brushed Stainless Finish?

Expensive: You’ll probably be surprised to see just how much a Vitamix really costs. While they are certainly far superior to other blenders on the market, spending hundreds of dollars on a blender is just too much for many families. If you plan on using this blender everyday and for a variety of kitchen tasks, you’ll get your money’s worth from the Vitamix. But if you want a middle-of-the-road blender that will still perform well, this machine will be out of your price range. And just because this blender is hundreds of dollars doesn’t mean it doesn’t have its shortcomings. These flaws are harder to accept on a more expensive machine. On a good note, it does come with a seven-year warranty, so you can get the most out of your investment.

Pre-Programming: Part of the reason why the Vitamix 1710 is more than others in the series is because it has the three pre-settings for Smoothies, Hot Soups and Frozen Desserts. Unfortunately, the Hot Soups setting doesn’t make the soup all that hot, so you’ll find yourself transferring the soup from the blender to the stovetop. The Frozen Desserts setting is also less-than-convenient, as you have to stand over the contents, use the tamper to stir and keep adjusting the speed of the blender.

The same goes for the Smoothie setting, as you have to watch the mixture to make sure it doesn’t form air pockets. While these pre-programmed settings are certainly an upgrade to the machine, it almost seems like they were forced on the design just to keep up with the competition, instead of being well thought-out. And, you end up paying more for them. The good news is that this is the only Vitamix that has automatic shutoff so that you can pre-set a program and walk away.
