Fortunately, Waring has been good about sending out replacements, but the blades are not exactly easy to replace. To put as little strain on the blades as possible, always start with a liquid base and add more liquid as needed. This machine, although professional, is better intended for smoothies, purees and soups that are made on occasional bases.

Light Use: The Waring does do a good job of making smoothies and other soft foods, but even so, you won’t find yourself using this machine on a daily basis. Between the blades and the motor, the machine will give out before you can use it every day. Not to mention, there are some flaws with the design that can make preparing milkshakes and smoothies time-consuming such as by having to continually push down the contents and re-blend. Many current owners of the Waring agree that this blender is best for occasional use.

Performance: As stated before, this Waring blender is great for certain tasks but not for others. Ideally, you want to make mixes that are watered down, as the thicker mixtures tend to create air pockets. If you use chunks of ice, they tend to get stuck underneath the blade and then the blades will lock up. In some cases, the blades may even bend when working with ice and frozen fruits. Really, this machine is best for smooth ingredients such as purees and soups, as well as for occasional use. For the price of this machine, many owners expected better performance.

To help keep the ingredients consistent, you can stop halfway through, push down the ingredients and blend again.

Poor Chopping: Every blender has its niche, and the Ninja Kitchen System 1100 works best for blending. It doesn’t do a great job of chopping, so if you toss in onion or garlic, you’ll find that the appliance struggles with these harder ingredients. Ice is another ingredient that can be difficult to chop up, although some current owners have had no problems with the ice. If you’ll be spending most of your time blending liquid ingredient with this machine, you’ll find more satisfaction with it than if you are planning on chopping ingredients.

Lids: The lids that are included with the Ninja Kitchen System 1100 are difficult to position. You need to be strong or at least get a really great pull in order to remove the lids. This can hold you back when trying to get things done around the kitchen. Another drawback to the lids is that they are not interchangeable. The blades are secured into the lid and not the base, so you will need to remove the lid in order to pour out the product and the blade will fall out. And since the blades are super sharp, you won’t want to be holding them on with your hands. Just keep in mind that if you plan on using the blender for multiple recipes, you’ll have to do some washing of the lids in between.

What’s So Great About the Vitamix 1710 Professional Series, Brushed Stainless Finish?

Brushed Stainless: If you want a blender you can be proud of, the Vitamix 1710 is the one. Sure, the appliance has plenty of power packed into it, but that doesn’t mean it has to look like a box car. Instead, you get a handsome brushed stainless finish that is resistant to fingerprints and smudges, although a simple wipe is all you need to clean the base. The brushed stainless base features two switches and a variable pulse control knob instead of buttons that get sticky and need to be cleaned out. And for added stability, the base has non-slip feet on the bottom.

Technology: Vitamix blenders are in a completely different category than other blenders. The Professional Series blenders wouldn’t be able to achieve such high results if there wasn’t advanced technology built into the appliances. The patented tamper works with thick mixtures such as milkshakes, ice cream and sorbets that other blenders wouldn’t be able to handle. There are three pre-programmed settings – Smoothies, Hot Soups, Frozen Desserts – so that all you have to do is push a button, and you get consistent results each time. While the Vitamix 1710 does rest on a lot of technology, some of the performance just comes from quality parts, speed and power.

Superior Parts: If you’re tired of replacing blenders every year or two, the Vitamix will be the last appliance you buy. It is an investment upfront, but you won’t be dissatisfied. Part of the reason why blenders break is because the internal parts are made from plastic or rubber. The Vitamix on the other hand, has nothing but quality parts inside and out. The blades are made from laser-cut stainless steel, feature superior cutting edges and are a one-piece assembly. Kudos to the product for being made in the USA.
Blending Power: Even with the high price of a Vitamix, many consumers don’t mind paying the cost since the power is far superior. The stainless steel blades and 64-ounce container create a powerful vortex that forces ingredients from the top of the blender down into the blade. This is the best way to blend foods and creates the silkiest textures, leaving no chunks behind. The blades can run up to 240 miles per hour using the variable speed control, which means you get all your blending needs done within seconds. Thanks to the pre-programmed settings, you can choose a setting, walk away and have everything done for you.

What’s Not So Great About the Vitamix 1710 Professional Series, Brushed Stainless Finish?

Expensive: You’ll probably be surprised to see just how much a Vitamix really costs. While they are certainly far superior to other blenders on the market, spending hundreds of dollars on a blender is just too much for many families. If you plan on using this blender everyday and for a variety of kitchen tasks, you’ll get your money’s worth from the Vitamix. But if you want a middle-of-the-road blender that will still perform well, this machine will be out of your price range. And just because this blender is hundreds of dollars doesn’t mean it doesn’t have its shortcomings. These flaws are harder to accept on a more expensive machine. On a good note, it does come with a seven-year warranty, so you can get the most out of your investment.

Pre-Programming: Part of the reason why the Vitamix 1710 is more than others in the series is because it has the three pre-settings for Smoothies, Hot Soups and Frozen Desserts. Unfortunately, the Hot Soups setting doesn’t make the soup all that hot, so you’ll find yourself transferring the soup from the blender to the stovetop. The Frozen Desserts setting is also less-than-convenient, as you have to stand over the contents, use the tamper to stir and keep adjusting the speed of the blender.

The same goes for the Smoothie setting, as you have to watch the mixture to make sure it doesn’t form air pockets. While these pre-programmed settings are certainly an upgrade to the machine, it almost seems like they were forced on the design just to keep up with the competition, instead of being well thought-out. And, you end up paying more for them. The good news is that this is the only Vitamix that has automatic shutoff so that you can pre-set a program and walk away.

So choose recipes where you start with milk, water or juice and can add the ingredients as you go.

Fit of Lid: It’s very difficult to get the lid to fit correctly on the blender. Not only will you find yourself fussing with it often, but also you'll see that it’s best to keep your hands on the lid. This could lie in the fact that the lid is made from silicone rubber, which is very soft and doesn’t get the tight seal that is necessary for blenders. A lot of current owners have complained that you need to be very strong to get the lid sealed in tight, but even so, you may be faced with leaking and extra mess to clean up. Noisy: It seems like any blender that has a lot of power packed into it is loud. This blender falls right in the same category and will blend loudly and vibrate right off the countertop if you’re not watching. But for those that have sensitive pets or live in an apartment building, you may want to rethink this machine. Furthermore, you’ll want to be within close reach to the machine, just in case it does decide to vibrate off the counter.

Lid: The lid included with the Blendtec is square-shaped to fit the square pitcher, and most users are more than happy with the square shape of the jar. But the lid snaps on super tight and gets really messy, as the force from the blender shoots all over the lid. The cover is difficult to clean, so you may find yourself having to soak it in warm, soapy water quite often. And because the lid gets so messy, when you open the jar, the contents will run down the blender. This can be especially difficult when trying to add in ingredients as you go along. If you plan on adding everything at once, the mess will be more doable.

Technology: The Krups KB790 is very well intended, as it automatically shuts itself off if it jams and will not burn out the motor. The jar is large and great for families or those that entertain, plus is made from thick shock-resistant glass that looks attractive and prevents the blender from having foul odors. And instead of starting out really fast where the contents in the blender have a tendency of shooting out, the Krups starts slow and then works its way up to speed. The appliance also features an innovative locking jar bottom where you must turn the blender upside down to remove the bottom, plus has tight-fitting lids that you won’t need to fuss with. All parts, with the exception of the motor, are dishwasher safe.

Options: Instead of getting an appliance that only has High and Low settings, the Krups comes with five speed settings for various textures, a specific ice crushing function and variable pulse mode on all settings. Unlike other blenders that may only be good for chopping or juicing, the Krups KB790 can handle all tasks because of the balance of settings and powerful blades. There are seven programs for maximum efficiency as well.

What’s Not So Great About the Krups KB790 Die Cast Blender?

Expensive: They say that you pay for what you get, and in this case, it’s true. The Krups KB790 doesn’t come cheap, although it’s not as expensive as some of the other high-end blenders on the market that have blending speeds of 200 mph. That being said, you can find many other blenders for half the cost, and the Krups doesn’t come with any fun accessories as some blender and food processing systems do. While you will pay more for the blender, you definitely won’t be sorry. The quality and power of this machine surpasses others on the market. If you’re on a budget and looking for a moderately priced blender however, you may find that the Krups is a bit out of reach.
